HUNTER VALLEY & DISTRICT LOWLINE PROMOTION GROUP BULLETIN BOARD

Welcome to the HVDLPG web link page.

Our aim is to keep you up-to-date with the goings on of the Hunter Valley & District Lowline Promotion Group.

The Lowline judging has been completed at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. All entries were excellent examples of Australian Lowline Cattle. The 16-20 month Heifer class and the Over 30 month Cow class both had 11 entries. I am glad I did not have to be the judge. HVDLPG members that exhibited were Shannon Lawler from Ausbred Lowline Stud and Lucy Kuipers from Elle Kay Lowline Stud.

Well done to all the participants at Hawkesbury Show and welcome to our new members. The Supreme Lowline Exhibit was awarded to the Junior and Grand Champion Female, Tiny Haven Angel. Congratulations to Kevin Jarvis and all those at Tiny Haven Stud. We had seven Studs represented and almost 30 animals on the day. Unfortunately we were unable to hold an official meeting at Hawkesbury. We did have a chat and will be holding it at the Workshop in June on the Saturday evening, details below. Full show results can be found here.

Junior paraders at 2008 Hawkesbury Show. Australian Lowline

We are holding a Show Preparation & Paraders Workshop for Youth on 7th & 8th of June. It is being held at Meszline Stud at AGNES BANKS. It will include instruction on how to prepare Cattle for show and information on Junior Parading and Judging. Though aimed mainly at youth all ages are welcome. This will be a hands-on event with plenty of animals so everyone can have a go. For more details contact either:
Lana Kuipers 02 4777 4384, 0408 207 109, ellekaystud@hotmail.com or
Emma Germany 0425 311 066, bluejem_lowlines@hotmail.com.
We will be holding a BBQ on the Saturday evening for HVDLPG members and have our meeting then. It is not necessary to attend the Workshop to be welcome at the BBQ. If you would like to attend please let me know for catering purposes.

Please don’t forget Sydney Royal 2010. The dates are 1st – 14th April 2010. Lowlines are the feature breed. The time to start planning for entries to this show is now. e.g. cows have to be covered April/May this year for their calves to be eligible for the Steer competitions. Junior Heifers/Bulls will need to be bred from now till October 2008. Any calves on the ground now will be Senior Cows/Bulls by 2010. It is a good idea for the cows have a good size calf-at-foot, cover them from January – June 2009. So start planning now and lets make 2010 the Year of the Australian Lowline.

Signing off for now.
